Here is an X braced Martin 2-24 from the mid to late 1840s. Incredible condition for the age, and even comes with it's original Coffin hard case. This guitar is virtually identical to the Martin Coupa as shown in the Gruhn book of acoustic guitars.
Two piece belly of pine with an early verison of scalloped X-bracing. Back and sides are highly figured Rio Rosewood. Neck and head are cedar. Houndstooth purfling to the back and centre join and tail joint of the sides. The head is a sliced join and not of one piece.
The nut is original nickel silver. Centre join has been repaired. Some minor cracks can be seen on the back. Frets are original.
