With its worn aesthetics, time-honoured hardware and vintage-style electronics, this Tele is an early '50s Tele at heart but features a unique '59-style neck profile.
Construction
The '59 Custom Shop Tele's body is formed from lightweight Ash, much like the very first solid-body electric guitars that Fender constructed in the '50s. Not only does this particular material give the guitar a forgiving weight, but its resonant and vibrant tonal qualities also offer a strong voice, serving as the perfect foundation for the sweet-sounding pickups.
Paired with a bolt-on quartersawn Maple neck, the famous Fender snap that you'd expect is very present, ensuring you get the classic Tele twang. Finished in a nitrocellulose lacquer, this neck has a luxuriously smooth feel that has been artificially worn to give it a familiar and played-in impression.
With a Large "C" profile, fans of early Telecasters will be provided with a highly-authentic and substantial feel. Adorned with a Maple fretboard, this provides some essential sturdiness to balance the overall sound of the instrument. Fitted with Sanko 6105 frets, this tall and narrow wire has a vintage vibe that allows optimal control over vibrato and string bends.
Electronics & Hardware
The hand-wound Fender Custom Shop pickups installed in this instrument are very special, projecting that signature Tele tone with more clarity and charm than anything you would have ever heard before.
In the bridge position you’ve got the '51 Nocaster single-coil, renowned for its potent output and bright attack. This pickup is as close as it can get to its original counterparts from the '50s, providing the most genuine Tele sound achievable. In the neck you have the Twisted Tele pickup, which delivers a warm and rounded tone with lots of mid-range punch.
Regarding its hardware, the Custom Shop '59 Tele Heavy Relic has been appointed with traditional hardware to keep its old-school aesthetics intact. Featuring a Nocaster box-style bridge, this authentic-feeling hardware allows for easy palm-muting, but also makes on-the-fly action and intonation tweaks a total breeze. Accompanied by vintage-style tuners, these premium-machined parts will ensure rock-solid tuning stability.
